World Skills Competitions ( WSC )
World Skills Competition (WSC) is the largest international Vocational Skills Competition in the world. The 43rd World Skills competitions will be hosted in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 14th to 17th August, 2015.
WSC takes place in different countries every two years and brings together over 1,250 young people from across the globe from 62 countries to compete in various skills ranging from welding to web design. The competitors pitch their skills against the best of the best and compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
World Skills Competition attracts thousands of visitors such as from schools, colleges / training providers, Government representatives, employers and teachers.
World Skill India (WSI)
India became the 48th member of the World Skills on 20th January 2007 with CII as its only member organization, the responsibility since taken over by NSDC, set up by the Ministry of Finance under Public / Private Partnership (PPP) mode, to provide the prestigious event on an International platform. NSDC represents World Skills activities through World Skills India.
NSDC, an empowered organization will be the official body representing the country at the World Skills Competition.
In general there are 6 Skills Clusters, namely :
- Transport & Logistics
- Construction and Building Technology
- Manufacturing and Engineering Technology
- Information Technology
- Creative Art
- Fashion, Social and Personal Services
The competitors are required to be under the age of 22 in the year of competition with exception being for Mechatronics, Manufacturing team challenge, Information Net work cabling and Aircraft Maintenance where the competitors must not be older than 25 years in the year of competition.
At the 40th World Skills International Competition in 2009 held at Calagary, Canada, Mr. N Priyadarshan from Gedee Technical Institute, Coimbatore was the first Indian to secure SILVER MEDAL in Mould Making Skill. There were 900 competitors from 51 countries participating in 45 skills.?Mr Priyadarshan made India proud.

NSDC conducted National Skill selection process during January – March 2015. The selected candidates meeting the World Skill selection criteria are undergoing rigorous training under the supervision of Skill experts before proceeding for World Skill Competition in Germany.
For skills in Plastic Die Engineering and CNC Turning, candidates from Gedee Technical Training Institute, Coimbatore secured First Places in the Final Selection.

There were 4 competitors in the initial Regional selection level, 3 competitors in the National level and 2, in the final stage. - Mr Jishnu K – CNC Turning
There were 15 competitors in the Regional selection level, 9 competitors in the National level and 3, in the final stage.
These boys from GTTI, Coimbatore shall represent India in the World Skill Competitions in Sao Paulo, Brazil this year. Mr Sunilkumar Sharma is a native of Pune, Maharashtra and Mr Jishnu K , hails from Kannur, Kerala.
Government of India has already launched “Make in India “campaign with an aim to turn the country into a global manufacturing hub.
To discuss on current scenario on skill development and catalyze the initiative by recognizing the outstanding work of private sector and industry participation in skill development, ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) in partnership with various Ministries of Govt of India has organized a “Summit-cum Awards on Skilling India” on 20th January 2015 in New Delhi.
The Skill Achiever Awards honour and recognize organizations in private sector, Government departments, semi Govt establishments, etc. who have demonstrated their commitment to the advancement of Skills by implementing skill development training programs those are relevant and result oriented. Skill Achiever Awards are certain to attract an overwhelming response with the pledged support of rural and urban area, Govt institutions, missions including overseas bodies, etc.
ASSOCHAM identified 15 various skill based areas for recognition.
Out of 76 nominations received, Gedee Technical Training Institute (GTTI) , Coimbatore was selected for First place in the category of “Vocational Training Provider”.
GTTI received the Gold Trophy and Certificate for the “Best Vocational Training Provider” in India at a function held at Hotel De Meredien, New Delhi on 20th January 2015. The award was presented to Mr T P Ramachandran, Senior Counselor, GTTI by Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, Hon’ble Minister of State for Labour and Employment in the presence of Mr. Alok Kumar IAS, Director General, DGET and Mr Sunil Kanoria, Vice-President, ASSOCHAM.
